So, you’ve decided to pursue your doctoral degree in psychology. Congratulations! That was the easy part. Deciding which avenue to pursue in the psychology department is an entirely different story. If there is a certain aspect in this field that interests you enough to pursue your PhD Psychology in it, see if there is a program available. If there is not a program with your exact specifications or desire, there is sure to be several different degrees close to the avenue that you would like to take.You can earn your PhD in Applied Behavior Analysis which focuses on the areas of biology, psychology and even physical therapy. Studying in the PhD field of Clinical Psychology has you focusing on the areas of guidance counseling, educators and clinical psychologists as well as social work and psychologist in the research area.If you are interested more in the human psyche, a PhD in Developmental Psychology may be an avenue you could research. This PhD program deals with studying the process of human development from birth through adolescence and finally into adulthood and beyond. You may also wish to research a PhD in Mental Health Therapy. This program deals with a large range of emotional issues of a person from family and self-image problems to work-related stress. Those who receive their degrees in this field go on to promising careers as therapists, family counselors and psychologists. A Somatic Psychology doctorate deals with the mind and body of a person and how they connect with one another. Careers as art therapists, dance therapists and Reiki practitioners can all be associated with psychology PhD programs such as these.  Pursuing a PhD psychology can lead to a notable and reputable career in many different fields associated with a clinical psychology degree. Choosing which path to take is entirely up to you. Try to pick a field that you feel passionately about and explore that route as a possibility to get your doctoral degree in. Psychology is a very challenging but rewarding field to be in.
